does anyone else have the habit of taking the jackets off hardcover books they read? i much prefer the feel and smell of books without their jackets (lovely linen, stiff and proud) but now that i keep turning up these lonely cast-off covers at the bottom of my boxes i feel obligated to reunite them with their books (frankly, those books have sat au naturel on my shelves for years and i’d forgotten they ever had jackets.) the effect is that my bookshelves are looking more and more glossy, and i loathe glossiness on bookshelves… when i am queen of the universe, publishers will print only matte jackets, on pain of death, etc.
