i wobbled slightly over the oath (s comforted me that all the best people do it — even the american president had fumbled his before) — but the admissions hearing went off without a hitch — no objections, no objections, no objections ( and the orders were made and the signatures put here and here and we were robed and there we all were — advocates and solicitors, admitted to the bar. the aged ps were not unpleased — i had skipped three graduations — they thought i would never go to something so like it (me: ah it’s a court hearing, not a ceremonial conferment! not being there means the application is thrown out! it’s not like graduation where the university gives you a degree anyway whether or not you’re there to receive it!) nohrnberg, of course, always said that one’s degree was in the earning of which, not its receiving.and so, there we are.
