the problem with intensive modules is not that the exams and papers deadlines come tumbling down on you mid-semester; the problem is that out-of-season, you don’t think of stocking up on your customary reading week crates of apples and chocolate, which are, i now confirm, essential to productivity (not to mention fumbling in the dark kitchen for apples at 3am is one way of keeping awake.) after five days in front of the computer writing almost nothing i began to have a glimmer of the problem and nipped out to the supermarket. it is of course mortifying that a grown woman of three-and-thirty who is on her third degree still needs junk food to get through paper/exam time and cannot simply steamroller her way forward with internal discipline, but there you are. Vaughn says i lack moral fibre, but then he is skinny and lives primarily and austerely on lentils and wine and has grittiness in his soul.
