today i was much moved by the discovery of pierogis on the menu at the provision shop at everton park and immediately ordered them. when paying (no gst or service charge, only a milo tin tip jar’ on an overhead pulley system) i ask the chef how he came to have pierogis on the menu. the unexpected answer: he has a polish half-sister. she comes to visit us on holiday, but whenever she comes her real job is to make us pierogis.” hence demonstrating that the kitchen enslavement of family members is not the special province of the dutch. (the chef also turns out to be the former chef of cocotte, so he knows what he is doing.

note to self: the provision shop is another show-von”
