why is it every time we attain some kind of new technical achievement in space the internet comment threads start simmering with anti-exploration nonsense? do we in 2014 still need to debate the benefits of space exploration? besides, let’s put that modest price tag in perspective. 1.4b euros for the rosetta mission (or 1.7b american dollars) has been calculated to be the price of just four airbus A380s. the world’s airlines are spending that much replacing their fleets. you know how much the movie interstellar cost to make? US$165m, and they don’t even really get off the earth. you don’t think putting an actual spacecraft into actual space is worth the difference?
