twice in recent times the bbc thrusts at us storylines of people telephoning to their future (bradbury 13, doctor who) and he says to me, what could i have said from the past to you that would help? and instantly – violently  — savage anger blazing:

don’t you know what you could say from the past?

back then you couldn’t say it on principle, for fear
now you can’t because it would be untrue

if back then you could have picked up the phone and called me in the future
where in the future it wouldn’t be true it would be true when you said it:

the man i hope you’re with now, future me, doesn’t, but i do now. stay with him.
