stef b.: why are there no minz-papa stories of late!
me: didn’t i just tell one about the lemon slices for tea, and his old-man’s-bones?
s.b.: we want more!
well this isn’t a minz-papa story but there’s an expression he uses, and neither i nor he is quite sure where he got it from. it is used in the context of, for instance, inviting someone over for a meal, and they say, please, we wouldn’t want you to go to great trouble, and you say, oh no no, don’t worry, i’m just going to take the cheese out of the mousetrap.does that come from, perhaps, a television catchphrase, or is it a variant on an older saying? and are there examples you can think of that are along the same lines?
