Heath cites with approval from Punch on the subject of maintaining haughty reserve with strangers, until they have exchanged six words from Horace.

Mr. Punch […] quite approves the social free-masonry which keeps two gentlemen reserved and haughty until they have exchanged six words from HORACE, when they discover that they may converse with propriety and safety. (Punch 50 (June 9, 1866))

At which I am reminded that only very recently I went on a date with someone for the very reason that he traded me four words from Horace (in medio stat virtus) AND trumped me one by giving the Aristotlean source in the orginal Greek. I am certain that one not only can but must go out with men like that!
