i find the whole colleen turzynski story touching not simply for her search — for while i sympathise strongly with her anguish and her desire to learn more about her past, to come to terms with the trauma of her parents’ murders, it is also the universal story of other orphan children who begin a search for their birth relations. here what i find especially affecting, especially poignant instead, is the interview with her singaporean relations (scroll down, video (mostly in chinese but with english subs - although the english subs don’t quite capture the colour and inflections of class and age.)) – even in the us news reports — they merely say that the singaporean relations expressed interest” but did not come to the us to try to claim her. the focus is always on the searching child, but few think of the family — who have always regarded her as one of their own, their sister’s child.
