in trust law a gift of land is a devise which is devised (v) to a devisee; a monetary gift is a legacy left to a legatee, but what is the equivalent cognate form when it comes referring to the recipient of a bequest (i.e the recipient of a gift of personalty?) one bequeaths a painting or a car or a watch, and that would be called a bequest, but bequestee is obviously an ugly and wrong-minded word. donee works, but being generic refers to all beneficiaries, money and land included. heath says that perhaps we must go back to the root of bequeath, “cwaethan”, but one couldn’t go with “addressee” can one?
